About

Johnny Mythos is a First-person survival action game, where the main mechanic revolves around the camera that the main character is holding. Players will be playing as Johnny, a photographer in need of money, going into a jungle to take photos and proof the existence of a mythical creature called the Sang Kelambai.

This game was showcased at GameStart 2017 as part of the Singapore Polytechnic, Diploma in Game Design and Development's booth.

Photo taking system

Since photo taking is the core mechanic in Johnny Mythos, just having the effect of 'taking a photo' is simply not enough. We wanted to make sure that the player knows that the 'photos' are actually taken and can be viewed in the gallery. These 'photos' are actual screenshots of the in-game environment and can also be accessed off game.

There is also a night vision function that can be triggered while using the camera, which helps player to manoeuvre through dark environment.

PHOTO TAKING SYSTEM

Quick time event

To move things a little faster in a rather slow-paced game, quick time events are added. Player has to hit the correct key within a short period of time to continue or they will have to restart from the last checkpoint.

QUICK TIME EVENT

Melee Combat

A simple melee battle as the final showdown between the player and the mythical creature Sand Kelambai. And of course with a little help from the camera's flash.
